We’ve all been there at some point. We excitedly look through our form submission data from our most recent campaign only to come across bogus data.
Someone with the first name of Test (and, funnily enough, their last name is also Test). Or, maybe their first name is A and their last name is Z. Or, they provide a fake phone number and/or email address, or an email address from one of the free email domains instead of a legitimate work email address.
As long as there are forms, there will be people who want to download your valuable content using fake contact information. Or (and arguably worse), spam bots that outsmart your basic form validation rules and really throw off your conversion rates and other marketing metrics. In fact, Distil Networks’ annual Bad Bot Report found that bots accounted for almost 40 percent of all web traffic in 2019.
I’ve written previously about configuring spam prevention forms in Eloqua, and I’ve helped many clients strengthen their spam prevention capabilities in both Eloqua and Marketo. Lately, though, I’ve encountered more and more Uberflip users who are experiencing similar challenges.
Fortunately, there is a way to enhance the out-of-the-box form validation rules.
- Setup your forms to prevent the most common fake names
- Block a long list of free email domains
- Thwart certain spam bots from crawling your page and entering bogus information
- Prevent real prospects from entering the most common fake information to avoid being contacted (such as single letters, numbers, or “test” for first and last names)
You can also tailor your validation script based on your individual needs, such as by adding your competitors’ email domains to your block list, requiring correct phone number formatting, and making sure the zip code is at least 5 digits long.
Once enabled, the script will apply the custom rules you’ve created to each and every Uberflip form, which will help protect your precious gated assets and keep most of the content-hoarding riffraff out of the woodwork.
Strengthen your Uberflip content experience
We use Uberflip as DemandGen’s central Resources Hub for our gated content assets, and were named Uberflip’s Service Partner of the Year in 2019. So, we’re pretty familiar with the ins and outs of this powerful Content Experience Platform.
If you’re ready to significantly cut down on bogus and irrelevant data in your Uberflip forms, DemandGen can help you tighten up your spam prevention protocols to eliminate the most common spam attempts. (No spam prevention efforts are 100 percent effective, since bots are always adapting and becoming more sophisticated. However, you can make it significantly more difficult for both bots and legitimate prospects to enter fake contact information.)
We also offer a wide array of Uberflip Services, including implementation, integration, content strategy, and ongoing maintenance, to help our clients personalize the content experience for their buyers, accelerate pipeline and revenue, and understand how their content is performing. You’ve spent a great deal of time (and money) creating sought-after content. Make sure you’re getting something valuable in return.
