It’s been a while since the introduction of Eloqua’s first major user interface update, “E10,” which was unveiled at the annual user conference a few years ago. That release, built on HTML 5, offered up a totally new UI as well as several ease-of-use enhancements, like the Campaign Canvas and a lead scoring module. When Eloqua was acquired by Oracle in December 2012, we all knew it would take some time for Oracle to prioritize “what’s next” and start to deliver it – but for many of us, it has felt like Mr. Wonka slammed shut the gates to the Chocolate Factory! The Oracle Oompa Loompas have been busily working away in there – but on what?
Well, this month (February 2016), the whole marketing cloud world gets to see what they’ve been up to, along with some hints about what’s to follow. As a strategic partner, DemandGen was among the first to get an update on Eloqua’s product roadmap, and a Golden Ticket to get our hands on this upcoming release.
We’ve put together a short 5-minute demo to take you on a tour of the new Eloqua User Interface, and share some first reactions. Check it out.
Overall, I found the interface easier to navigate, and more intuitive. I prefer the new menu system over the current horizontal iconic style. It’s a hierarchical menu, which is certainly far more expandable as Eloqua continues to add capabilities. You’ll appreciate quick access to almost everything you work on daily; there’s even a shortcuts area in case you want to customize the dashboard. I like that many of the more powerful capabilities, which were previously hard to find in the application, are now available from the menu system instead of being buried away in Setup or other areas.
Although this first release is mainly a facelift to the UI, coming soon is a really exciting new tool: Program Canvas. Think of it like Program Builder with a Campaign Canvas UI. That’s all the spoiler info I am allowed to share publicly, but get ready for new power tools to follow the February release.
A note on application speed: I can’t tell if it’s because we tested the new release in our sandbox, isolated from our production environment, but moving around the application was super fast. Each area loaded very quickly, almost instantly, which for a cloud-based application is rare and a delight. Let’s hope that speed will translate to real world operations.
